A Ninja Movie Maker Writes... At plugincinema we recently had an email from a fellow filmmaker talking about the process of filmmaking for the internet, the power of the web for film distribution and the work they had done - all linked back to the pluginmanifesto! Cool email, and we've decided to share it with you...
My name is Rene Amador, I'm a moviemaker currently attending UC Santa Cruz, majoring in Film and Digital Media. Let me explain my background: In January of 2002 I had a vision after looking at the website realultimatepower.net. The vision was: 'Real Ultimate Power: The Official Ninja Movie,' which I subsequently produced, directed, and edited myself EXPRESSLY for the purpose of releasing it online (foodforthemoon.com/ninja)! Since then, with absolutely no advertising WHATSOEVER, the movie has been viewed over half a million times! It is one of the most successful independent internet distributions I've ever heard of! Three years later, we still get 5,000 views per month for that one movie! Since then, have made a number of other movies that, from concept, had in mind distribution for the internet. You can find most of them here: movies.foodforthemoon.com. Our most popular movies, other than the official ninja movie, are: Female Seeking Female Companionship, Alone, Hath Fury, The Music Box. With all our movies put together, we get an average of 10,000 views per month, and 95,000 hits for the site in general. I came across your website because I'm doing a paper topic similar to Maya Deren's "An Anagram of the Ideas of a Filmmaker" except designed entirely for digital video and online distribution. I don't know if you're familiar with Maya Deren's writings, but the synthesis of her text and my own ideas, which was the bulk of my paper, is essentially your "plugin manifesto." Anyways, I wanted to let you know that I really love your website. You also have the thrill of knowing your work is being referenced in a school assignment!
