The aim of the project is to integrate theoretical frameworks from media and film studies, such as concepts of form and narrative structuring, with emerging DV technology.
The phenomenon of film delivery via the Internet is becoming increasingly popular. It currently contains, however, little critical focus. Much of what appears is an attempt to copy previous forms such as the cinema or television (which were themselves also, initially at least, copies of previous existing art forms). Since the act of watching in the cinema appears very different from the behaviour generally exhibited by users of the Internet the key objectives of this research will be to examine on-line films to assess the possibility that they are/have the potential to be, a unique and new form - a "plug-in cinema".
We aim to provide you with all that you need to create your own films. There is a film school with interactive exercises, a glossary explaining all the technical aspects you will come across, links to suppliers for equipment and books, as well as bulletin boards. If there is anything you feel you need more information on let us know, and if at all possible we will provide it. We hope that this site is useful to 'seasoned' filmmakers as well as those just starting out since we also provide information on how to translate traditional analogue practise into digital filmmaking. Finally, we hope that by passing on this knowledge we are enabling more people to become involved in the digital film making arena, and that by stimulating interest and experimentation we are adding to the debate about the future of filmmaking.
